Mario Donatone Trio

Mario Donatone is one of the most appreciated piano player and blues/soul singers in Italy and has a long career either as soloist either as sideman of afroamenican blues, soul and gospel artist touring Europe. He has also collaborated with several important Italian artists (Tiromancino, NeriMarcorè, Mario Biondi and others), various records made as soloist, tv shows, festivals like Pistoia Blues, Trasimeno Blues, Porretta Soul, Roma Jazz Image and many others.

Along with the guitarist, bass player and singer Angelo Cascarano and the drummer and singer Roberto Ferrante, two great eclectic musicians, he created the Mario Donatone Trio, a band rich of variety of sounds and characterized by the warmth of vocal harmonies along with the strength of instrumentals.

When Mario plays piano Angel plays bass, instead, when the leader plays keyboards Cascarano embellishes with his guitar the classic “Hammond trio” sound of the band. The all supported by the percussive and strong drumming of Roberto Ferrante, a musician who loves Latin, Africa and American rhythms, playing all with great eclecticism and spontaneity.

The repertorie stretches between classics from Ray Charles, Steve Winwood, B.B.King, Neville Brothers and others brought back to their “Roots” dimension and original tunes from the CD “Blues for Joy” of Mario Donatone. The atmosphere is that of a fresh and spontaneous combination of musical intensity and ability to entertain in the more genuine bluesy tradition.
